If you have a remodeling or construction project to do, one of the most important decisions you will make is who you choose for your contractor. Without a good contractor, the rest of your project can be a stressful, messy, nightmare of an event. However, when you find a good contractor, your project can be something that you actually feel is worth the minor inconvenience. If you have a few contractors in mind, ask yourself these questions to make sure you’ve picked a good one.
- Am I basing my decision purely off the quote? It’s tempting to choose the contractor with the lowest quote. Keep in mind though, that picking a contractor is not like picking between different brands at the grocery store. Going with the lowest quote can mean shoddy results or inflated prices later on.
- Do they provide insurance for their team? Contractors work with a lot of dangerous tools. Additionally, construction is a very physical job. If an individual working on your home is injured during your project and uninsured through their employment, you are responsible for them!
- Have I seen examples of their work? While getting a recommendation from a friend is great, if that friend can show you the work that was done, that would be even better! When you see proof of the quality and timeliness of their work, you’re better off going forward with your own project.
